How to Measure Bottoms & Find Your Best Fit

Finding the ideal fit for your pants and shorts shouldn't be a puzzle, but sometimes that's how it feels with sizing variations between brands.

We receive countless inquiries revolving around fit, and it's something we look to dial in for our online customers. We believe in doing all we can to provide all the relevant information to our audience so they get the best fit possible on the first try.

If not, we of course offer crazy-quick-and-clean returns and exchanges under our Fair Deal Guarantee, but for the time and environmental impact of shipping, we hope to stick the landing on the first shot with orders.

How to Measure Bottoms

We'd like to dispel any confusion regarding how our clothing—specifically the bottoms in this article—fit on a real, breathing human being. The first step is to properly measure and know your needs.

Prep for measuring:

  • Grab your best-fitting pair of pants or shorts. Button them up, if applicable.
  • Spread them flat on a hard surface (not a bed or couch) and remove any wrinkles or slack.
  • Use a soft measuring tape. Compare your measurements to the chart above. Measure twice, buy once.

1. Waist:

  • Measure across the width of the pants/shorts at the center of the waistband.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

2. FRONT RISE:

  • Measure from the crotch seam or top seam of the crotch gusset, to the top of the waistband.
  • NOTE: Crotch gussets make comparing rise to non-gusseted pants tricky.

3. HIP:

  • Measure across the hip area, 3 inches above the crotch seam or top seam of the crotch gusset.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

3. Hip:

  • Measure across the hip area, 3 inches above the crotch seam or top seam of the crotch gusset.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

4. Thigh:

  • Measure across the thigh area, 1 inch below the crotch seam or top seam of the crotch gusset.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

5. Outseam:

  • We do not recommend using this measurement for sizing.
  • Use inseam to determine proper length.

6. Knee:

  • Measure across the knee area, 16 inches above the bottom hem.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

7. Inseam:

  • Measure from the crotch seam or top seam of the crotch gusset to the bottom hem.

8. Leg opening:

  • Measure the width of the leg opening from one side to the other.
  • Double this number to get the full measurement.

Match Measurement to Size for Best Fit

Once you have your measurements down, then the next step is to simply match your measurements to the closest size.

Each product in our bottom's selection has a detailed size chart that will tell you exactly the range of each size.

Zipping Things Up

The only better than quality pants are having a pair that fit just right. Sometimes that little extra space—or lack thereof—can throw a whole piece off and prod you to go another way.

We don't design clothes for them to wait in closets for use. We want our products out in the world right alongside you, and if for any reason your product doesn't fit right, just drop us a line and we will make things right.

We hope you find this guide useful, take your measurements along with our hundreds of customer reviews to get the best idea of what size is for you. Then you get pants.
