Maintaining the Things That Matter
It might not feel like it just yet, but fall is coming, which means it's about time to swap out your sandals for boots. Are you ready?
This fall, instead of pushing newness, we're focusing on maintenance: clothes repair, car servicing, boot conditioning, etc. The stuff you know you ought to do but sometimes forget to do until it's too late.
What we've found is that, instead of looking at these tasks as chores, we can reframe them as meditative moments to align our time with our values and take care of the things we love. And taking a few minutes to take care of something saves way more time than buying something new.
For your boots:
- Keep 'em tidy - Knock off mud and debris before putting your boots away.
- Clean and condition at least once per year.
- Re-treat with waterproofing or wax as needed.
For your bike:
- Keep your bike clean(ish) between rides. Knocking off dirt between rides goes a long way.
- Maintain wear parts regularly. Clean your chain, check/replace brake pads, and top off sealant in your tires.
- Fix broken parts before they cause more problems, or a wreck.
